CADchat Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started & Accessibility
Yes! CADchat was built to be intuitive and user-friendly. Teams can quickly onboard without the need for extensive training. You can be up and running, and hosting meetings within minutes.
CADchat is a web-based application and works on web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari), desktops (Windows & Mac), and mobile devices (iOS & Android).
A digital workspace in CADchat is a persistent environment where your team collaborates in real-time or asynchronously. It includes sections like Meeting, 3D Canvas, Documents, Whiteboard, and Files — all organized in one place. Workspaces stay active even after meetings end, making it easy to revisit, update, and keep work moving forward.
Just go to cadchat.com and sign in using your credentials. No downloads required.
Yes! Users can seamlessly integrate CADchat into their Google or using the CADchat extension. It is available on both Chrome and Edge!
File Handling & Collaboration Tools
CADchat supports over 30 CAD and design file formats including a wide range of 2D and 3D formats for seamless collaboration across design, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
3D Model Formats:
.FBX, .GLTF, .STL, .GLB, .OBJ, .STP, .STEP, .3DS, .SLDPRT, .CATPART, .SLDASM, .PRT, .ZIP, .PAR, .IGES, .IGS, .RVT, .IPT, .IAM, .JT, .F3D, .3DM, .SKP, .IFC, .X_T, .X_B, .SAT, .1, .2, .3
2D Document Formats:
.PDF, .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG, .DXF, .DWG, .CATDRAWING
Simply drag and drop your files into CADchat to view, comment, and collaborate—no additional software required. Uploaded models can be viewed, reviewed, and shared in real time—and some can be downloaded as alternate formats like .STEP or .STL directly from the file drawer.
Absolutely. CADchat enables secure file sharing and high-resolution screen sharing, optimized for technical, CAD, and creative content.
Each CADchat space supports up to 5 files, giving you plenty of room for models, drawings, and supporting documents.
No. CADchat offers unlimited storage, so you never have to worry about volume limits. Individual files are capped at 500mb.
Yes. Every call and digital workspace remains available post-meeting. You can continue commenting, reviewing files, or starting new conversations asynchronously.
While CADchat doesn’t currently display a view log, all annotations and comments are captured and organized in the thread drawer. This ensures that feedback is preserved and easily accessible for context, accountability, and ongoing collaboration.
Currently, access is managed at the space level. Granular file-level permissions are in development. In the meantime, teams often use separate spaces for sensitive files.
Meetings & Real-Time Interactions
Yes. CADchat offers the same core features as Zoom or Teams, but with powerful enhancements for product and engineering teams: built-in CAD review, async comments, and context-based workspaces.
Meetings. CADchat is used primarily for daily calls, design reviews, external supplier collaboration, and executive visibility/team accountability.
Yes! CADchat allows everyone in the meeting to manipulate the 3D model simultaneously. Each participant can rotate, zoom, inspect, and comment in real time—without waiting for someone to finish sharing their screen.
Comments, Feedback & Review
Yes, CADchat supports threaded comments on files and models. You can also @-mention teammates to alert them to specific feedback or decisions, streamlining collaboration.
Not at this time. CADchat is designed to keep all communication, comments, and annotations within the space to serve as a single source of truth. This ensures that context is preserved and teams are always aligned around the most up-to-date information.
Integration & Compatibility
Yes. CADchat integrates with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, including calendar sync and single sign-on (SSO).
Direct integrations are in development. In the meantime, many users include a CADchat “space link” in their PDM/PLM record to provide easy access to live model reviews and feedback threads. Rebuttal question for prospect/customer: “How do you connect your meetings to PDM/PLM today?”
Collaboration with External Stakeholders
That’s no problem. You can invite external guests to join a space with a single link. While an account is required for security purposes, free guest users can sign in quickly and don’t need a paid license. They can view, comment, upload files and collaborate without restrictions—just not create new spaces or schedule calls.
Absolutely. CADchat is intuitive for non-technical users and supports visual commenting, document uploads, and live walkthroughs for stakeholder input and approval.
CADchat is built for global collaboration. There are no geographical boundaries—many of our current users actively work with international suppliers and partners. The platform is optimized for asynchronous workflows, so teams in different time zones can review files, leave comments, and mark up models without needing to join a live call.
Yes! Many teams use CADchat to present designs to customers and collect feedback. The simple, visual format makes it easy for anyone to participate—even without a CAD background.
